Treat a mailbox removal as a data change. Save any messages you need before deleting an address.
Steps
- Export or back up the mailbox, including Sent and custom folders.
- For an address change, create and test the new mailbox first, then migrate the needed messages.
- Review forwarding, website forms, devices, and business contacts that still use the old address.
- Only remove the old mailbox when you have confirmed the data is preserved and delivery has been moved.
Good to know
Do not assume renaming an address will automatically migrate all app settings or incoming mail. If you need help moving a mailbox between providers, contact Support before deleting either copy.
