Small changes to configuration files can affect the whole website. Keep a recoverable copy and change one thing at a time.

Steps

  1. In File Manager, locate the file in the correct website directory.
  2. Download a backup, then use the edit action. Enable hidden-file visibility if you need to locate .htaccess.
  3. Make the intended change and save it.
  4. Test the website immediately. If an error appears, restore your saved copy and contact Support with the error and time of the change.

Good to know

Never store a backup containing passwords in a publicly accessible website folder. The effect of .htaccess depends on the web server; do not paste server-specific rules into an incompatible setup.
