Small changes to configuration files can affect the whole website. Keep a recoverable copy and change one thing at a time.
Steps
- In File Manager, locate the file in the correct website directory.
- Download a backup, then use the edit action. Enable hidden-file visibility if you need to locate
.htaccess. - Make the intended change and save it.
- Test the website immediately. If an error appears, restore your saved copy and contact Support with the error and time of the change.
Good to know
Never store a backup containing passwords in a publicly accessible website folder. The effect of .htaccess depends on the web server; do not paste server-specific rules into an incompatible setup.
