Start with the change that preceded the error, such as an update, new plugin, PHP change, or migration.

Steps

  1. Record the exact message, affected URL, and time. Check whether the public site, administrator area, or both are affected.
  2. Review the application recovery email or error log if available.
  3. Use a staging copy or a known recovery method to isolate a recent plugin or theme change. Keep a backup before editing files.
  4. If the site cannot be recovered safely, open a ticket with the recent changes and error details.

Good to know

Do not enable permanent public error display or share configuration files containing passwords. A fresh installation over the current site can destroy data and is not a normal troubleshooting step.
